nFX and the Internet
**********

To date, imagery on the Web has been static and limited. At nFX we have added an exciting new choice: Web MationTM. Now you can create images that can be accessed through web browsers and infinitely manipulated by users - letting them create new images and animation on the fly. When you create images with nFX, powerful new things are possible that cannot be done with other methods. Images become alive and interactive.

Using nFX tools and technology, interactive, animated objects can be embedded in Web pages. nFX animation is extremely compact, requiring only a fraction of the download time commonly associated with animated sequences. Even more important is that nFX animation sequences can be pre-scripted by the author, interactively manipulated by the user, or controlled by data from the user's system.

With nFX technology, images become interactive illustrations and animation. A picture of a face becomes a character whose pose, expression, and emotions are controlled in real-time by one or multiple users of the Web page.

There are currently three ways to experience nFX interactive images on the Internet:

  • First, a user can interact with an nFX model through an nFX Living Art Server®. This is how our "Cartoon-O-Matic®" works. When you make changes in the controls of one of the cartoon faces, you send back to the server a small set of numbers that reflect your proposed changes. Back at our server, those numbers go into the nFX "black box" model for the cartoon face and it then generates a totally new, original face based on those numbers. This new image is then downloaded to your PC. You are not getting an image pulled out of an archive but an image created for the first time based on your choices. Pretty neat.
  • Second, you can download an nFX Active Viewer and nFX model that will allow you to manipulate the same image on your PC without the delay of sending the new images over the internet. The nFX model now resides on your PC and you can generate new images and views of the model in real time. For developers, the interface for the viewer - what the user sees and how they interact with the model - is completely customizable. There is a fully documented API for creating interfaces linked to the image controls created by the author.
  • Third, soon you will be able to download a Beta version of the nFX WebMation Plug-In® for Netscape Navigator®. This will allow nFX real-time animation and models to be viewed and manipulated from within Netscape®.
  • All of this is possible, and easy to do. And all of this is accomplished with existing Web technology.
