Benefits of nFX TechnologynFX technology allows authors to develop content that people will want to use again and again. Each time they use it they will interactively create new images and sequences, creating new content for themselves. Users can now inject their own creativity into multimedia and web graphics while ensuring that the results will be "professional."
Using nFX technology, authors spend less time creating art for various scenarios and more time on the creative process of character/image design. Experienced and expensive design talent can now delegate generating art from story board reference images to the nFX software. Developers save time and resources, and can focus on creative design vs production.
nFX images are based on vector graphics and can be scaled to any size. Users with fast machines can watch a full-screen animation with no "pixelization" as the image size increases. Furthermore, the file size of an nFX animation remains the same whether being shown as a 64 x 64 icon or a 640 x 480 full-screen movie.
nFX graphics and animation not only scale spatially, but also scale through time. Since each frame of an nFX animation is created when needed, someone running the nFX Active Viewer software or Web Mation® Plug-In on a fast machine will see many more frames per second than on a slower machine. A 10 second animation sequence being viewed on a (very) slow system may display only 10 frames, while the same animation sequence could be composed of 600 unique frames on a (very) fast machine. As with image size, the file size of an nFX animation remains the same in both cases.
For Multimedia and the Web to ever realize the type of interactive, multi-user creative interaction that people want, authors and users need the capability of generating new images and animation on the fly. Instead of repetitive, canned sequences and images, they need to be ALIVE. Conventional technology requires that all anticipated images be created and stored beforehand. Even with CD-ROM capacity, this creates authoring nightmares for multimedia developers. On the Internet it is worse. This approach creates bandwidth problems, and more importantly, limits the creative element of the interactions. nFX technology not only mitigates the bandwidth bottleneck, but also provides a higher quality, "creative" type of animated image or character with a broad range of expressions, attitudes, shapes, etc. - all under user control. Consequently, the same nFX model can generate a large variety of animations that are all different from each other in both obvious and subtle ways.
nFX software is dimension-independent. While our current tools provide strong 3D-like effects starting from a set of 2D images, the software is already being extended to 3D. Future versions will use a set of reference 3D images to generate unique 3D models that can be directly embedded and manipulated in a 3D or VRML world. As new dimensions are discovered, nFX will take advantage of them.
A further development of the nFX technology allows the interactive display, animation, and control of photorealistic images such as a photo of a person's face. All the nFX capabilities available now for 2D and 3D vector graphics will be available for photorealistic images.
