Overview of nFX

Who is nFX?

nFX is a venture-backed Silicon Valley software firm committed to bringing real-time, interactive, living graphics to Multimedia and the World Wide Web. Existing multimedia and Web site graphics are static or at best consist of linear, pre-scripted animation. nFX technology adds a new, living dimension to graphics. nFX graphics and animation can be controlled in real time and new, original graphics can be created on-the-fly. New images are created through interaction with the user or from data representing events taking place in or outside the system. The Internet and Multimedia will forever be a far more interesting, compelling and interactive experience.

How are we doing this?

nFX is building radically different Multimedia and Internet authoring tools based on patented technology developed at MIT. These tools provide the capability for real-time generation and control of images for on-line, WWW and PC-CD/ROM multimedia environments.

nFX allows multimedia and Web authors to create living "Content Generators" from a small number of reference images or designs. Based on these examples, the nFX software "learns" to generate hundreds, thousands or even millions of new, original images, all consistent with the style of the original author. These living "Content Generators" are small, compressed files that can be easily transmitted over the net or embedded in multimedia titles and applications. Using the nFX Active Viewer or nFX WebMation® Plug-In for Netscape Navigator®, images can be viewed, modified, animated and new images created in real time.

When? When? When?

Right now, you can interact with sample images on the Web through our nFX Living Art Server© at www.nfx.com. Our nFX Living Art Server© generates completely new images based on the choices you make. The image you receive is not a stored bitmap, but generated for the first time based on your input. The new image is then downloaded to your PC.

You can also download stand-alone versions of the examples you see on the nFX Web Site. These stand-alone applications allow you to manipulate the images in real-time instead of waiting for our server to generate and download the new image to you. Check our site often, as new models and nFX Active Viewers will be added regularly.

Soon, you will be able to download an nFX WebMation® Plug-In for Netscape Navigator® which will allow real-time animation from within Netscape®. Once the plug-in and model are loaded, real-time animation of the model can be run within the browser. Additionally, new animation scripts - typically only 10-100 bytes - can be downloaded to generate new animation on the nFX model.

Alpha versions of the nFX authoring and run-time tools are available now to selected multimedia and on-line authors for evaluation and early development of interactive titles and services. The commercial release of our WebMation® Design Kit for internet-based development, our nFX Living Media Designer® and our nFX Living Art Server® are scheduled for release this Fall.
